Season One, Episode One: The First Move

––

If you've ever watched How I Met Your Mother, you know the story of Ted Mosby trying to explain to his kids how he met their mother. Well, we’ve got our own version of that—just without the blue French horn, but plenty of unexpected twists.

Here’s how Nikki met Ella.

It all started at a physical therapy clinic. Nikki had just started working there—first-day nerves, name tag slightly crooked, trying to get the hang of things.

And that’s when she met Ella. Actually, fun fact, Ella refused to train Nikki, but that's beside the point.

Now, Ella wasn’t just another coworker. There was something about her. Maybe it was the calm confidence. Maybe it was the smile. Maybe it was the way she somehow made even the longest workdays feel lighter.

At first, it was just friendship—real, easy, natural. The kind where you get each other’s coffee orders right without asking. The kind where your day’s automatically better because they’re in it.

But what started as a friendship grew into something more. Nikki knew it. Ella probably knew it too. And one day, Nikki just went for it. She kissed Ella. No fanfare, no big speech—just a moment that said, I know this is something more.

But instead of growing apart, Nikki and Ella grew closer.

In the stillness, they found something steady. The kind of love that feels like home—even when the world outside is upside down.

And then… the world ended. Or at least, it felt like it. COVID hit, everything shut down, and suddenly, life was made up of quarantining, Zoom calls, takeout, and a lot of time to think.

They were like Marshall and Lily—minus the matching pajamas (probably), but all the laughter, the comfort, and the “I’ve-got-you-no-matter-what” kind of love.

So, that’s how it started.

With a first day. A kiss. And the kind of timing that shouldn’t have worked... but did.

“There wasn’t a single moment I fell for her—it was all of them, right from the start.”

— Nikki

“I knew from the first moment, that I had found my person.”

— Ella

Season Four Finale: The Final Page

Most people get one proposal, but we got two—because, well, our love story needed a sequel.

Ella went first.

On August 15th, just after Nikki finished PA school, Ella planned a surprise proposal in Charleston, the city where they first created a home together. With the help of their best friends, Morgan and Jacob, she asked the big question. Thoughtful, emotional, and exactly what they needed at that moment.

A couple months and one moving truck later, it was Nikki’s turn. She had planned a proposal in Asheville, everything set. Then Hurricane Helene came along and changed those plans.

With just 48 hours to adjust, Nikki reached out to Melanie, Mikaila, and Anna, and they came up with a new plan in Charlotte. On October 3rd, Nikki proposed to Ella.

Two cities. Two rings. Two very different moments.

But one story. One yes. And one final page to write together.
